A Franciscan Community of Poor Clares living the First Rule of Saint Clare of Assisi.

Our Vision Statement

Our Poor Clare community is composed of women who have felt called by the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus more closely as enclosed Franciscan contemplatives living the Gospel  way of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi.  With our gaze on Jesus, we offer our entire lives to be the presence of God on earth, as he was, through the grace of the holy Spirit, by our union with God in continual prayer, and our endless  concern for the world Jesus loves so much. Our basic monastic form of life is lived in the particular spirit of  the charism of Saint Clare of Assisi: poverty, joy, sisterly love and unity, and trust in God’s loving Providence through the kindness of his people.

Welcome to our website!

Our website offers us a means of sharing something of the substance of our lives as Franciscan contemplative women of the 21st century.  So, what do we do all day?  We’ll try to give you a picture of that in OUR DAILY LIFE.

We have been a presence in Boston for over 116 years.   In OUR HISTORICAL SETTINGwe will share the journey that brought our community to this day.  There is also a list of POOR CLARE REFLECTIONS written by our own sisters, to bring you more deeply into our spirit.  Our distant past is summarized in an article entitled 800 YEARS OF POOR CLARES.

Current happenings and photos are presented in our BLOG.

CLARIAN RESOURCES offers a look at the saints, martyrs, as well as some of the many Poor Clare writers and notable followers of Christ, in the Order of Saint Clare.  An introduction to the study, and a glossary of the abbreviations for sources used, will usher the reader into details of hundreds of  women who strove to reflect, in their Franciscan contemplative form of life, Christ’s own love of the Church and the world.

ENJOY!
